Lip balm has taken on a different look in recent years. We have gone from cherry and peppermint sticks to adorable vanilla spheres. EOS lip balm has brought us more delightful options when it comes to lip care and personally I cannot get enough. In an article from Fast Company we get a look into the famous brand, EOS lip balm.
EOS stands for Evolution of Smooth. Sanjiv Mehra, cofounder of EOS has a career background in creating consumer pre-packaged goods. Mehra wanted to Target the lip balm market because he felt it was an area that hadn’t been touched in decades. With help from Jonathan Teller and Craig Dubitsky they brainstormed ideas on how to make lip care fun, exciting, and easily accessible. The trio surveyed women on how they think lip balm could improve.
One of the main concerns was the container. The stick form chapsticks would get lost in handbags and the tub of balms felt completely unsanitary. Therefore, they developed the egg shapes we enjoy today. The shape and colors are attractive to consumers and the scents are more pleasing to the senses. Once stores started showing interest they knew production would have to quick, which led them to purchase their own equipment rather than branching out to a third-party manufacturer.
Having stores show interest wasn’t going to be enough Mehra and his team knew they needed to get people talking. They turned to bloggers in the realm of Facebook, YOUTUBE, and Instagram to try the product and talk about it. Than they recruited celebrities such as Miley Cryus and Britney Spears. After seven years since the start-up, EOS lip balms are selling by the millions. With copycats starting to emerge, EOS continues to make innovative, quality products.
